In the field of construction, classic concrete and concrete block construction remains the general way to build because it is very robust and solid. However, it also contributes to the problems mentioned above. Concrete is an energy-intensive and CO2-emitting material that consumes a lot of water and generates waste. Concrete blocks are heavy, inflexible, and prone to cracking and moisture. They offer little in the way of thermal and acoustic insulation and require additional materials and costs to meet all requirements. Technically, however, they are inevitable when it comes to large and complex constructions, just like steel.
However, for single-family homes, semi-detached houses, and multi-unit residential buildings, the use of less polluting materials can easily be reduced!
In practice, when building your home, you must pay attention not only to the price but also to quality, energy efficiency, and environmental compatibility. Because a house is not only an investment but also a living space that affects your well-being and health.
According to the legislator, the lowest energy efficiency class that a new residential building must meet in Luxembourg is class B. This means that the building’s primary energy consumption must be greater than 0 and less than or equal to 50 kWh/m² per year. Energy efficiency classes are a measure of a building’s energy consumption and CO2 emissions. They are calculated from the primary energy consumption, which indicates the amount of energy required for heating, hot water, ventilation, lighting, and air conditioning. Energy efficiency classes range from A+ (very good) to I (very poor). The lower the primary energy consumption, the higher the energy efficiency class. To determine the energy efficiency class of a building, a comprehensive energy performance certificate (energy passport) must be established.
With classic construction, it is very laborious and very costly to reach classes A and B!
Our houses are all built in energy efficiency classes A and A+ (A+ less than or equal to 0 A greater than 0 and less than or equal to 25 B greater than 25 and less than or equal to 50)!
